My Story

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada. Currently, I reside in San Diego, California with my husband and children. Getting married at a very early age, and having my children soon after, I have the experience in the area of marriage, family and children of all age groups. Furthermore, due to my educational background, and work in the community, many have and continue to approach me seeking advice or help in personal matters. This has led to my continued passion to support those around me. Although our community continues to evolve its infrastructure, I feel that resources in resolving conflicts, especially those that are sensitive to our religious and cultural values, are still fairly limited. That is why I am passionate to bring my expertise to communities, at both the interpersonal and organizational levels.

Growing up in an exemplary community, opportunities for me to be involved in community building started in my teenage years. I have had the privilege of being a part of organizations throughout the country such as the Muslim Youth Council, Manitoba Islamic Association, Muslim Youth of North America, Muslim Students Association, Islamic Society of North America, Noor Islamic Center and more.

Currently, I sit on the Rihla Board and have recently completed my three year term as the Education Director on the Muslim Community Center of San Diego Board and The CAIR San Diego Chapter Board. I have established an ongoing part-time Hifz program and co-founded Youth Intensive Classes at our local Masjid. I have partnered with others in the community to initiate a number of key successful programs throughout San Diego, including Reclaiming Our Faith; The Annual Community-Wide Family Conference. Years of experience in community work inspires me to an unrelenting resolve to help move the community to the next level. I have witnessed, on innumerable occasions, how the inability to resolve conflict has been a major factor hindering organizational and community progress. This has been the motivation for completing my Master’s Degree in Conflict Management and Resolution. My focus during my Master’s degree consisted of holistic methodologies, mediation, conflict analysis and an in-depth study on the Prophet Muhammed’s (PBUH) approach to conflict resolution and negotiation.

With my experience, training and expertise I am eager to help communities and organizations grow to their full potential!

Some Kind Words

  • On behalf of the Afghan Community Culture Center, thank you for your outstanding conflict management training in our community. I was personally so impressed the way you took direct ownership of the training and conducted the sessions with Afghan newcomers’ families how to resolve a conflict and be peaceful in our life. I have asked a great number of community members from male and female they were so appreciated about the quality of training you provided, and they tend to come again and again to gain further knowledge on how to manage conflict at any circumstances. Based on the service we have received from you; we kindly appreciate your services.

  • I attended a parenting workshop led by Saima in May. The format of the workshop was unique for me in that it was a guided discussion. I really loved that aspect, as it allowed for different opinions and perspectives within the topic at hand. Saima made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. She provided handouts that highlighted subtopics and areas of discussion.

All of this contributed to a very insightful and effective learning experience. I would highly recommend it and personally look forward to participating in her upcoming events.

  • A while ago, I took Saima’s parent conflict resolution class. It was a straightforward yet very effective session. She taught us simple yet very powerful steps on conflict resolution which in my opinion can be used in our other relationships as well. She explained each step so well and thoroughly. There were other participants that gave a little experience of their past scenarios where they had tried something similar and how well it worked. It motivated me to step outside my comfort zone and adapt to these steps to better my relationship with my children and spouse.

  • Strengthening our Marriage through Conflict Resolution was an extremely beneficial and insightful class. Saima used many different difficult scenarios one may face in a marriage or in parenting and gave wonderful tips as to how to maneuver through them without conflicting with the other person. These are life skills that each one of us should possess but have never really formally learned. Attending this seminar was an opportunity I am glad I didn’t miss.

What I liked about her talk that she recommended simple, yet very practical skills to be used and can be remembered easily when faced with a conflict. In addition to that, I really appreciate her positive approach to conflicts and disagreements. She gave tips on how to turn disagreements into means towards strengthening relationships.
