My Story
I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada. Currently, I reside in San Diego, California with my family. Getting married at a very early age, and having my children soon after, I have the experience in the area of marriage and family. Furthermore, due to my educational background, and work in the community, many have and continue to approach me seeking advice or help in personal matters. This has led to my continued passion to support those around me.
Growing up in an exemplary community, opportunities for me to be involved in community building started in my teenage years. I have had the privilege of being a part of organizations throughout the country such as the Muslim Youth Council, Manitoba Islamic Association, Muslim Youth of North America, Muslim Students Association, Islamic Society of North America, Noor Islamic Center and more. I currently serve on the Rihla Board and have recently completed a three-year term as the Education Director on the Muslim Community Center of San Diego Board and as well an Executive Board member for the CAIR San Diego Board. I have established an ongoing part-time Hifz program and co-founded Youth Intensive Classes at our local Masjid. Over the years I have partnered with others in the community to initiate a number of key successful programs throughout San Diego, including Reclaiming Our Faith; The Annual Community-Wide Family Conference.
Years of experience in community work inspires me to an unrelenting resolve to help move the community to the next level. I have witnessed, on innumerable occasions, how the inability to resolve conflict has been a major factor hindering organizational and community progress. This has been the motivation for completing my Master’s Degree in Conflict Management and Resolution. My focus during my Master’s degree consisted of holistic methodologies, mediation, conflict analysis and an in-depth study on the Prophet Muhammed’s (PBUH) approach to conflict resolution and negotiation.
With my experience, training and expertise I am eager to help communities and organizations grow to their full potential!
